Become a Beak n Wings foster home!
Beak n Wings can always use good clean homes for foster care. We are happy to help train our new foster homes in parrot care if needed.
How to become a foster home:
1. Sign up to become a member (go to tab become a member)
2. Submit a foster application
3. Attend the Basic Bird Care Class or Advanced class
4. Have a home evaluation completed
5. Begin fostering after 90 days as a member (at times we place sooner due to the number of birds we have).
You can fill out the Adoption/Foster application online. Membership required to foster.
Here are our foster home rules:
- You must have been a BNW member for 90 days to foster.
- You must agree to bring the foster birds to our events at LEAST ONCE per month, this allows the public to see the birds, and increases the chances of adopting the bird to a good home. Therefore, you must live within reasonable driving distance. (Birds with certain behavioral problems are an exception).
*Please note, that our foster homes are not trial adopters.*
We expect our foster homes to work on the socialization of our birds and provide their daily care.
Our Rescue/Adoption staff assign birds to foster homes taking into account the personal preferences and experience of the foster home.
We do not accept requests to foster a particular bird.
-You must agree to follow-up visits on all birds you are fostering.
We must keep watch over all birds in the program.
Schedule visits
Most of our rescued parrots reside in foster homes, where they are treated as companions and rehabilitated when needed. We have discovered that this setting offers them the optimal environment for successful recovery. Since the majority of our birds live in private residences, they are available for visits by appointment only. A select few birds that are up for adoption remain at our facility and can be visited during regular business hours. Appointments to meet the birds are arranged at our location in Lenexa.
